A Syrian was yesterday charged with repeatedly beating his partner, threatening to kill her and causing her to miscarry over the past six months.

The 32-year-old man pleaded not guilty to seriously injuring the woman on Sunday when he hit her in the face and on the head, dragged and kicked her in various parts of her body.

He was also charged with assaulting, injuring and threatening to kill her over the past six months and with causing her very serious injuries when she miscarried as a result of his dangerous driving last December.

The man was denied bail by Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani.

His name is not being published to protect the identity of his partner.

Police Inspector Anthony Cassar prosecuted.

Lawyer Mark Busuttil was defence counsel.
