The Malta Environment and Planning Authority (Mepa) determined 801 applications in May and received 786 new applications bringing the net pending caseload at the end of the month to 4,926.
Mepa processed 77 notifications of development which, according to the Development Notification Order 2001, do not require a formal application. Seventy stop and enforcement notices were issued, 63 in Malta and seven in Gozo. Seventeen enforcement cases were closed, 12 in Malta and five in Gozo while nine enforcement cases were sanctioned by the issue of a sanctionable permit. Another eight cases were resolved since owners decided to remove illegal development and comply with enforcement notice.
Twenty-four cases received at the complaints office were resolved without the need of enforcement action, since owners complied with instructions given by Mepa enforcement officers.
Mepa also carried out six direct action operations.
