Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has vowed to stay at the club next season but gave nothing away about his plans for the long-term future.

Wenger's future at Arsenal has been the subject of speculation following the departure of vice-chairman David Dein in April.

"I've a contract for one more year here and I'll complete that contract," Wenger said. "We have a very young side which, I believe, can improve again. We'll bring in new people only if they're exceptional players."

Allardyce fears Owen exit

Newcastle United cannot stop Michael Owen walking out on them if another club invokes his release clause, manager Sam Allardyce said.

The England striker's contract contains a clause which allows him to leave if a substantial bid - believed to be more than £9m - is received.

"If Michael wants to go there's nothing I can do," Allardyce said. "We're benefiting from a release clause to get Joey Barton, but we could also suffer because of Michael's."

Owen appears to be winning his fitness race and was recently restored to the England squad.

Al Fayed blasts Premier bosses

Fulham owner Mohamed Al Fayed has lambasted the Premier League for "selling the clubs short" in their commercial negotiations despite being on the verge of receiving an unprecedented windfall. The Premier League has sold its media rights for a staggering £2.1 billion and the deal kicks in next season.

"Most of the clubs are living on the edge," he said. "Up until now every month I have to open my pocket and give a million or two million pounds.

"The Premier League think they can give the clubs £25 million. It is stupid. They are selling the most important game on earth but they are selling us short. What the Premier League is getting is peanuts."

U-21s need full-time coach - Pearce

Stuart Pearce has called on the English FA to make the U-21 coaching job a full-time appointment. Pearce, formerly of Man. City, is in charge of the U-21s for the European Championships in Holland before the coach's position is reviewed.

England head coach Steve McClaren has called for a permanent boss for the U-21s and Pearce insisted the loss of two influential players from the England squad - David Bentley and Gabriel Agbonlahor - backs his claim.

Pearce said: "Part of the job would be getting to the clubs, meeting the managers and forging tighter links with the players."

Inter fans ungrateful - Ronaldo

Ronaldo has labelled the Inter fans 'ungrateful'. The Nerazzurri were furious when the Brazilian demanded a transfer to Real Madrid in 2002, just as he finally found his fitness again after two years of injuries.

"I have always been grateful to the Inter fans, but they were not like that with me," he said. "In 2002 I had to escape with a police escort because I was afraid something nasty could happen to me."

On his decision to join Milan from Real in January, Ronaldo said: "I was a little afraid about returning to Milan, but it all went well.

"The most emotional moment was when I went back to the dressing room after my first brace at Siena. I was the last one in and everybody stood up to applaud me."

No more Ibra cases - Cobolli Gigli

Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has warned David Trezeguet will not be allowed to join Inter.

"There'll be no more Zlatan Ibrahimovic cases," he said.

The Serie A champions have reportedly made an offer for the Frenchman who has been unable to reach a deal to renew his contract.

"When we sold Ibra to Inter, we were in a very strange time in our history. Now we are light years away from that moment," Cobolli Gigli said.

"There will be no more cases like Ibrahimovic."

Meanwhile, Udinese confirmed that striker Vincenzo Iaquinta is ready to sign for Juventus.

Inter to step up Tevez chase

Inter are preparing to step up their chase for Carlos Tevez in a bid to strengthen their squad for next season and find a replacement for Adriano, who could be offloaded to Real Madrid.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Kia Joorabchian, the general manager of MSI, the company that owns Tevez's contract, met with Inter chiefs in Milan last weekend to discuss the transfer.

Manchester United are also reported to be tracking Tevez, who played for West Ham last season, and MSI are hopeful of getting a £27m price-tag out of this battle between the clubs.

Perrotta not keen on Premiership

English-born midfielder Simone Perrotta has no desire to leave the Serie A in favour of a move to the Premiership.

"I would never want to play abroad," Perrotta said.

The Roma midfielder had his early years in Ashton-under-Lyne, but when he returned with the World Cup trophy last summer, he took it to what he considers his hometown - Cerisano.

"For me, it is always a pleasure to return to Cerisano, because it is the only place where I feel at ease," he said.

Figo dismisses LA Galaxy link

Luis Figo has no ambition to join David Beckham at LA Galaxy.

The Portuguese winger has been considering his future ever since the termination of his agreement with Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad.

"Either I will play for another year at Inter or I will retire from professional football," he told reporters.

"Considering the affection shown to me by the fans, the president and team-mates, I would remain at Inter. The alternative is to retire. There are no negotiations in place with other clubs."
