The two Maltese players taking part in the European Championship in Ireland had mixed fortunes on Day Four of the tournament.

In Group A, defending champion Alex Borg won his third match from four when he beat Anthony Brabi,n of Cyprus, 4-1.

It was a good performance from the Malta champion who recovered from the loss of the first frame to win the next four including breaks of 57 and 54. Borg is currently second in the group behind Martin McCrudden, of Ireland, who has won all his matches. But Borg has a chance to go top when the two players meet today.

Four players from eight in each group go through to the last 32 knock-out stages.

Meanwhile, Simon Zammit suffered his second consecutive defeat in Group H when he lost to Tom Gleeson, of Ireland 4-1. Zammit is currently fourth in the group with two wins from four matches.
