It is about time countries like Spain and Italy began to appreciate the wonderful work the Armed Forces of Malta's Maritime Squadron is carrying out to save illegal immigrants from the seas around us.

The whole of the Armed Forces have been working day and night in all weather and sea conditions with the limited numbers and resources available.

And the thanks they get? Criticism from the media of the big bullies of Italy and Spain who do not dare criticise the source of all this trouble - Libya. We get promises of Frontex patrols which never turn up where they should be: off the coast of Libya.

We all realise that these immigrants deserve our sympathy, but there is just so much we can do for them and no more. We are doing enough and we deserve credit for what we are doing - not bullying, just because we are a small nation.
