The chairman and CEO of Multigas Ltd, Louis A. Farrugia and Vincent Bartolo, will meet the Kirkop council on Thursday to discuss details of two reports about the recent incident at the premises.
On April 10 a cylinder filled with compressed air exploded into several pieces and ripped through the roof of the Multigas plant in Kirkop before ending up in a neighbouring field.
No one was injured in the incident, which occurred after a malfunction developed while the cylinder was being filled mechanically with compressed air.
"This meeting was arranged four weeks ago, and any reports or allegations that Multigas wishes to withhold details of the cause of the incident are totally unfounded and untruthful," a statement by Multigas said.
The company said it continues to cooperate with all the authorities, both local and EU based, on the steps that have been taken to investigate the cause of the accident.
"In fact, the official EU Health, Safety and Hygiene at Work Unit has stated categorically in a reply sent by the head of the unit, José R. Biosca de Sagastuy, to the Occupational Health and Safety Authority in Malta that 'accepted good practices have been followed by both the operator and the Health and Safety Authority' ", Multigas said.
