Accused of assaulting police officer

A man was yesterday charged with threatening and assaulting a police constable outside St Luke's Hospital on Thursday morning.

Mark George Falzon, 31, of Marsascala pleaded not guilty to threatening and assaulting PC Matthew Pace in St Luke's Square, Pietà, and later at the Pietà police station.

He was also charged with disregarding police orders, refusing to give his particulars to the police, uttering obscene words in public, breaching the peace and loitering outside the hospital detox centre.

Mr Falzon was remanded in custody.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted.

Lawyers Marion Camilleri, Franco Debono and Charmaine Cherrett were defence counsel.
