St George the martyr was never removed from the liturgical calendar and April 23 was, and still is, the day in which the universal Church (including the Orthodox Church) commemorates this saint.

It is worth noting that besides St George the Martyr (303) and St George Preca, there are eight other Georges who are venerated by the Catholic Church as saints.

Three of these are St George Gervase, St George Napper and St George Swallowell who were English priests martyred during the English reformation.

The other St Georges are St George of Amatris, St George of Antioch, St George of Lodeve and St George of Vienne - all were bishops - and St George Leminates, the hermit. One can also add St Georgia (a French nun) and St Gorgonia.
