We all criticise our local councils for whatever they do. Yet what do we do to help our towns and villages look better and more beautiful? I am not referring to all the rubbish that we throw out in the streets, but simply to our overgrown gardens.

How many of us trim our trees and bushes and stop them from taking over the pavements? Do the local councils have to start dishing out fines to those households that leave these trees and bushes grow to such an extent that it becomes impossible to walk on a pavement?

Come on, let us all stop complaining and clean up our show first. Trimming our trees and bushes only takes a very short time.

Maybe the local councils can help by introducing a Clean Up Your Garden Day and have a truck to go round the streets to help collect these cuttings or maybe even help the odd residences that either have trees too big to handle or those of old people who cannot do the work themselves.

After all, gardens are there to make a place look good and not look like a jungle.
