I would like to comment about UEFA PRO William Gaillard's accusations that Liverpool fans are "the worst in Europe" based on reports compiled by undercover police agents from a neutral European force (!).
While I have to admit that some of the problems encountered by security personnel during this year's Champions League final were partly due to a minority of Liverpool supporters, the whole issue was blown out of proportion by Mr Gaillard to disguise the shortcomings of UEFA when organising what is supposed to be the pinnacle match of club football in European competition.
How come UEFA give Liverpool only 17,000 tickets for the final when in the preliminary round, 5,000 supporters travelled to Russia to watch the team play against Maccabi Haifa?
He should stop trying to deflect criticism from UEFA and accept the blame for their shambolic organisational skills.
Mr Gaillard must take note that this season alone, there have been many incidents involving other fans, notably the Roma-Manchester United, and Sevilla-Tottenham matches spring to mind.
Then we witnessed the punch-up in front of millions of TV viewers when Valencia hosted Inter Milan in this year's quarter-finals of the competition. And what did UEFA do to solve these growing problems?
Also last week, a fan punched the same German referee that took control on the Champions League Final in a Denmark-Sweden qualifier.
Regarding the venue of the final of the most prestigious club competition in world football, UEFA must select stadiums that are built to host football matches with a minimum capacity of 75,000, and ensure that the majority of tickets go to the two teams participating in the final and not go to corporate clients so that UEFA can gain more revenue. They must also ensure that tickets have a proper security watermark on them, and are not easily forged.
It is so easy to blame the English, especially Liverpool; everyone will accept that, then do nothing!
New UEFA President Michel Platini has had the cheek to urge the G14 to disband. It is in his sole interest for such thing to happen. He already said that the English, Spanish and Italians must have fewer teams in the UEFA Champions League in the future. Maybe it's the other way round and now the time has come for the G14 teams to break away from UEFA and form their own association; one which has foresight. A new association which involves giving tickets to proper fans only, with professional control at stadiums during matches (like in English stadiums), better communication with the clubs involved and showing the game in the home stadiums of the finalists so that supporters who cannot afford to go to the final will have the opportunity to sample a similar atmosphere at home.
