Fenerbahce sign Roberto Carlos
Former Brazil international Roberto Carlos has agreed to join Turkish champions Fenerbahce from Real Madrid at the end of the season. The 34-year-old left-back had said in March he would leave Real Madrid at the end of the season after 11 years at the club.
"Yes, I will be playing in Turkey at Fenerbahce," he told Spanish sports daily Marca. "They are the club that have shown most interest in signing me and they convinced me with their project. They have spoken to me lots of times and a very important element in helping me make my decision was that Zico is their coach."
A World Cup winner in 2002, Roberto Carlos joined Real from Inter in 1996 during Fabio Capello's first spell as coach at the club.
Forlan-Senna training 'bout'
Villarreal's Uruguay striker Diego Forlan and Brazilian-born Spain midfielder Marcos Senna had to be separated by team-mates after coming to blows for almost two minutes following some hefty challenges during training this week.
"We had been having a go at each other and it ended up like that. We lost our tempers and that's it. We'll have a chat and I don't think we'll have any more problems," Forlan told a news conference.
Villarreal are at home to Athletic Bilbao on Saturday and with two games to go in the Primera Liga are one point outside the UEFA Cup places in seventh.
Aragones to leave after Euro 2008
Spain coach Luis Aragones will step down from his post when his contract expires after Euro 2008.
"I've told the federation that they should be looking for a replacement after the European Championship," the 68-year-old said yesterday.
"It's normal that they should look for a new direction after Euro 2008."
Aragones took over as Spain coach from Inaki Saez in July 2004 after heavy campaigning by the Madrid-based media, but he has enjoyed little success at the helm of the national side.
Milan confirm Eto'o interest
Milan have confirmed their interest in signing Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o, but distanced themselves from media reports suggesting a deal was almost done. The European champions said Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani had been misquoted.
"No assault on Eto'o," the club said in a statement yesterday.
"Eto'o is a Barcelona player. Milan will make an official approach to Barcelona when the Spanish league finishes, but without the certainty that the great striker will eventually arrive at Milan as the Catalonia club rightly have the final decision on whether to sell or not."
Milan struggled for goals in the early part of the season after selling Andriy Shevchenko to Chelsea.
Figo denies Tottenham rumours
Luis Figo denied reports in England that he could join Tottenham. The winger's future is in doubt after he pulled out of a multi-million pound transfer to Middle Eastern club Al-Ittihad.
But Figo has dismissed stories in the UK that he was keen on joining compatriot Ricardo Rocha at White Hart Lane.
"There is no truth in this news," Figo said. "If I continue playing in Europe I will only do so for Inter. There is no possibility of me playing in England or Portugal."
Nani passes United medical
Nani, the Portugal winger, has passed a medical at Manchester United and now just needs international clearance before joining the club.
Following the completion of his medical at Carrington yesterday, Nani - who along with Porto midfielder Anderson cost United £30 million - was given a tour of Old Trafford.
Another summer signing, England midfielder Owen Hargreaves, will complete his £17 million move from Bayern Munich on July 1.
Novellino new Torino coach
Torino yesterday confirmed that they had appointed Walter Novellino as their new coach. Recently, he ended his five-year stay at Sampdoria.
"Torino are pleased to announce that a two-year contract has been agreed with Walter Novellino," read a note posted on the club's website.
The 54-year-old Novellino replaces Gianni De Biasi, who rescinded his contract with Torino last Friday after securing top flight safety.
Novellino made his Serie A debut as a player with Torino in 1972 and started his coaching career with Perugia.
Zebina extends Juve deal
Jonathan Zebina is the first player to commit his future to Juventus following their promotion to Serie A. The Frenchman's previous agreement was due to expire in 2009, but yesterday he put pen to paper on a deal which will run until 2011.
Zebina said: "This isn't only a professional choice. The club, the team, the new coach and the city convinced me this was the right decision."
The stopper, who was rumoured to have a frosty relationship with former boss Didier Deschamps, joined Juve on a free transfer in 2004, following coach Fabio Capello out of Roma.
Parker joins West Ham for £7m
Midfielder Scott Parker completed a seven million pounds move from Newcastle to Premier League rivals West Ham United yesterday. Parker, capped three times by England, has signed a five-year deal.
The move represents a return to the English capital for the London-born 26-year-old, who joined Newcastle from Chelsea in 2005 for £10m.
Parker, an energetic box-to-box player, came to prominence with south-east London club Charlton Athletic and he will be re-united at West Ham with ex-Charlton manager Alan Curbishley.
