A Polish young man was yesterday fined Lm300 after he admitted to damaging the lift at his hotel when he got trapped in it while drunk.

Sebastian Pawel Misiura pleaded guilty to causing damage to the lift at the Fortina Hotel, Sliema, where he was staying on June 4 at about 3 a.m.

The young tourist also admitted to threatening two police constables and slightly injuring a hotel employee that same night.

Police Inspector Romina Veneziani, prosecuting, told Magistrate Lawrence Quintano the incident happened when Mr Misiura got trapped in a service lift at the hotel.

The officer explained that Mr Misiura was drunk when he entered the lift, that was not meant for guests, and when it stopped he panicked and broke the lift's mirror.

When hotel staff and the police went to help him he became aggressive, threatened the officers and slightly injured a member of staff.

Lawyer Richard Sladden represented the young man.
