Choice, a tourism career awareness scheme aimed at Fourth and Fifth Formers, has so far reached over 10,000 students since it was launched six years ago.

Twenty-nine secondary schools have taken part in this year's programme, which is run by the Malta Tourism Authority's Industry HR Development unit. This very high participation rate was possible thanks to the co-operation of the schools' guidance teachers as well as the hospitality industry.

As part of the campaign, the unit put up a colourful MTA information stand at a Careers Day organised by De La Salle College, which took place on April 26. The stand attracted over 500 students showing interest the various career pathways available in the hospitality and tourism industry.

The MTA unit is responsible for developing HR for the tourism industry as a whole. It has issued two publications in the series of Career Guides aimed at secondary school students. Career Guide volume one covers 23 careers in the hospitality and catering sectors, while the second volume covers a further 16 sectors within the travel and tourism sectors.

More information on Choice can be obtained by contacting the unit on 2291-5122. Alternatively, send an e-mail to choice@visitmalta.com or visit the Website: htttp://mta.com.mt/index.pl/careersintourism.
