Charles Casha, an author of children's books, was recently invited to Patri Tumas Xerri Primary School, Bahrija, to talk to the pupils about his life and how he became an author.

The pupils were spellbound to meet Mr Casha in person, and very eager to ask questions and know more. They particularly loved Fra Mudest and his antics.

The talk formed part of a 'Library Week' of activities organised by the school aimed at spreading the love books and reading.

The older school pupils presented Mr Casha some of their own literary work. He was very positive in his review and encouraged them to try to have their work published in Saghtar. Some pupils also brought to school books they had by Mr Casha for him to autograph.

A wide selection of Mr Casha's books were also prominently displayed in the school library to encourage the pupils to read them.

Other activities held during the week included pupils giving a facelift to library books that were drab and torn while other pupils produced booklets of their own, summarising one of their favourite stories.

An exhibition of books by various authors in different time periods was put up in the school entrance. All the classes stopped their normal lessons at midday on one day during the week for the pupils and teachers to read and discuss books and articles.

All in all it was a very informative and interesting week culminating with a competition wherein pupils had to guess the number of books in the school library.

No prizes for guessing what prize the winner received!
