The energy-themed competition for schoolchildren, launched by Enemalta Corporation in March, came to a close last month.
The competition dealt with various subjects, including generation and distribution of electricity; alternate sources of energy; safe usage of electricity; and the conservation of electricity. The participating students were from Year 4 through to Form 5.
The winners of Category A were: James Borg, Sander Grima, and Luke Saliba from St Augustine's College, while second prize went jointly to another team of students from St Augustine's College and Mikiel Anton Vassali Junior Lyceum. The third prize was awarded to a team of students from St Monica School, Gzira.
Category C was won by Maria Laura Vella of Year 6 at St Monica School, while St Benedict College claimed second and third place, thanks to Andrea Portelli and Charmaine Abdilla.
Enemalta chairman Ing Alexander J. Tranter presented the winners with MP4 players and book vouchers for their school. Those who came in second and third place received a voucher from a computer shop. The winning entries and other notable submissions were displayed at the Delimara Power Station during and open day and also at a public exhibition in Valletta. During the open week for students at Delimara Power Station over 1,500 students visited.
The prize-giving ceremony was part of the activities that the Enemalta Corporation organised for 2007 to commemorate 30 years of commitment to providing Malta's energy.
Forthcoming activities include summer sporting days and outings for Enemalta's employees and their families, and the launch of a communications campaign this month. The objective of this campaign will be to generate awareness of the profound role that Enemalta plays in our day to day lives, while also communicating the basics of how the corporation functions.
