Malta's national teams - men and women - recently attended a week-long training camp in Salerno, Italy.

The training camp was made possible thanks to the efforts of Malta Volleyball Association (MVA) and the partnership agreements between the MOC and CONI.

The MVA is looking to bolster the national teams to represent the country in future international events.

David Falzon, MVA president, accompanied the squads during the training camp. In all, there were 28 players and officials forming part of the contingent in Salerno.

Both squads held a number of training sessions combined with warm-up matches against Serie B2 teams.

The men's team, coached by Mark Hili, played against Baronissi, Verditalia and Genoino.

Liz Mariani's women's team had friendlies against New Aspav, AS Rota Volley and Scuola Volley.

A statement by the MVA said Falzon was satisfied not only with the way the Malta teams performed but also with the high level of organisation and the hospitality at Salerno.

Hili described the training camp in Italy as a worthy initiative, particularly for the younger members in his squad. For most of them, it was their first competitive experience abroad, he said.

Mariani remarked that the week spent in Italy gave her players a taste of what is like to play volleyball as a professional.
