It was a first-class experience and a very touching one too. The dedicated work being done by Mario Farrugia and his devoted staff of Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna cannot be appreciated enough unless one visits this superb baroque monument. They had found it in an appalling condition but are restoring it and conserving it admirably.

I was taken around the astonishingly spacious building and I could admire the architectural beauty of this fortified gateway and the amount of work it entails to restore it after so many years of neglect and abandonment. The famous bronze bust of Grand Master Nicholas Cotoner, the subject of my prospective book, has been beautifully restored and I'm looking forward to see it hoisted back on top of the Gate where it belongs.

It's thanks to such selfless people that our heritage can thrive and prosper. However, they must have enough financial resources to continue with this work. It's imperative on the government and generous company sponsors to come forward and show their appreciation by donating the necessary funds. All of us too can give our little contribution whenever the occasion presents itself.
