Eighty items of lace were brought in to Casa Rocca Piccola in Valletta for the first Malta lace prize competition.

The competition, which was launched last September, is being held in conjunction with HSBC Cares for Malta's Heritage Fund.

The judging, held on Sunday at Casa Rocca Piccola, was carried out by Mario Buhagiar, Consiglia Azzopardi, Dennis Vella, Nicholas de Piro, Evelyn Baluci, Pat Houlton, Anna Balzan and Philip Farrugia Randon.

Consideration was given to originality of design, technical skill and presentation among other factors. The items in the competition are on show at Casa Rocca Piccola in the Summer Dining Room till Saturday.

The prize-giving ceremony takes place on Sunday when the winner will be presented with an HSBC cheque for Lm500.
