I refer to the letter entitled And There Wasn't Light (May 25).

On investigation it results that the 12-hour outage in Zebbug (actually 10 hours on May 3), was due to planned maintenance work on the substation in the area, and this outage was notified on the media, Enemalta's website and through the free SMS notification service.

The two-hour outage on May 14 was due to a cable fault, for which remedial action was immediately taken by Enemalta. Outages and repairs are an inevitable fact of life even in the most reliable and efficient electricity systems.
