On the way out of Buskett Gardens we curiously took a detour to Clapham Junction (prehistoric cart ruts) and Ghar Il-Kbir (troglodytes caves complex) according to the road signs.
Upon entering the main little fenced gate, we couldn't find any more signage directing us to the exact spot of the prehistoric cart ruts or the big caves complex. We didn't give up hope but kept exploring the area while some foreign visitors who were driving ahead of us gave up and left.
Our determination found us a "new friend", Leli Borg from Msida who was there with his wife enjoying the panoramic view of Siggiewi near the ancient Roman quarries. Mr Borg, who was familiar with the area, took the initiative to show us the prehistoric cart ruts followed by the three main Punic tombs and we ended up in the big caves complex.
Although the complex that was once occupied by the troglodytes is uniquely beautiful with an impressive history, garbage such as empty cans and bottles, snack wrappers, burnt wood and empty pails created an eyesore. There were fresh burn spots too that blackened part of the grounds and the walls of the caves.
On the way out of the cave, we found a small green sign stating "Girgenti Walk No. 2". Other than that, there was no other signage in sight. We would have been lost without the help of Mr Borg, that day.
I wish to appeal to the visitors to these sites to please help keep the place clean, so that others can enjoy this heritage as well.
