Around 300 people with a disability will be among the first Maltese to use the new computer programmes Microsoft Vista and Office Enterprise 2007. IT Minister Austin Gatt said these products - which have a market value of more than Lm300 - have special features that enable better IT use for people with a disability.

People with a disability registered with the National Commission Persons with Disability will be able to get the software for free.

They will also be the first beneficiaries of a government scheme to give refurbished computers to disadvantaged families.

Commission chairman Joe Camilleri highlighted the importance of IT for people with a disability, saying it was key both for education and employment.
