Close to Lm5,000 were reported stolen in an armed robbery on a petrol station owner on Saturday afternoon.

The police said the robbery took place shortly after noon in Misrah San Alwigi, Birkirkara.

Two hooded men wielding pistols stopped one of the owners of the station situated in Triq in-Naxxar, Lija, as he was returning home. The robbers made their getaway in a white car, driven by an accomplice, the police said.

No one was hurt in the incident.

The police are investigating.
