The government's decision to scrap the idea of a golf course on the north coast is not just commendable but also courageous, and it must have been difficult to take. The government has decided to protect a large tract of land which offers spectacular scenery with its garigues. Malta's environmentalists and NGOs together with the public welcomed the park project announced last week with great joy coupled with a shimmer of hope that this government has not completely lost its environmental credentials after all.
Everyone saw this as a positive step, everyone, that is, except Alfred Sant and his "poodles" who branded this as a colossal U-turn. Not only that. On May 17 Dr Sant visited the Marsa golf course and said that Malta needs two to three courses. While the U-turn accusation deserves no serious comment, may somebody from the MLP please tell us where a future Labour government is going to build these golf courses?
Is it possible that in 20 years in opposition this party is not even capable of identifying a stretch of land good enough for a golf course? Perhaps the next money-making marathon on Super One should be dedicated to collecting money to draw up a report on this issue! At least for want of some credibility!
