Seventeen graduates will be able to benefit from foreign internships offered by IBM as part of the Vertical Strategic Alliance that the Ministry for Industry, Investment and IT entered into with IBM last year.
The alliance of some educational and industry initiatives aimed to contribute to the attainment of Malta's targets in the national ICT strategy, the growth of local information society and the engendering of the local ICT industry.
IBM is offering high-performing Information Technology, Computer Studies and Business Administration graduates, the opportunity of working abroad in Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Israel for three- to 12-month periods during this year and 2008.
During the press launch, IBM's business development executive Carlo Drago explained that thanks to this initiative, IBM detects the talent which is eventually employed by the company.
These foreign internships will provide the successful graduates with the opportunity to work for IBM, on real projects with real professionals, and experience new cultures while gaining first-hand experience and getting paid for it.
Four internships will be offered at IBM's Tivoli Lab in Rome. The selected candidates will be able to gain first-hand working experience in this software development laboratory which has the worldwide mission of developing and maintaining software products. Internships will be four- to six- months long.
Ten one-year internships will be provided with IBM Business Consulting Services in Spain and Switzerland for Information Technology or Business Administration graduates.
Selected candidates will work on real IT projects with experienced consultants who apply innovative thinking, practical tools, services and high-powered technologies to unearth business value to develop action plans and solve organisations' business issues.
Three internships will be offered at the IBM Haifa Research Lab in Israel which hosts over 600 employees who contribute towards the innovative capacity of IBM in areas focused on healthcare, mobile service technology, collaboration technology, digital media, complex event processing, business optimisation, information mining, distributed systems, storage management, high availability, and others.
With IBM Haifa Research Lab, an internship of one year and two internships of three months are being offered.
IBM will hold interviews and select the graduates on the basis of academic performance, experience and expected contribution, among others. Calls have been issued for graduates to register their interest for these placements. Students who are currently in their final year of studies and will graduate this year are eligible to apply.
