Russia's Tatyana Lysenko set a world record in the women's hammer with a throw of 78.67 metres at a national meet in Sochi yesterday.

The 23-year-old smashed her own mark of 77.80 set last August in Tallinn by almost a metre on her first attempt.

Four women bettered the 74-metre mark in Sochi. Gulfia Khanafeyeva finished second with a throw of 77.36 ahead of Yelena Konovtseva (76.21) and Yekaterina Khoroshikh (74.87).
