The Malta Environment and Planning Authority said that the deadline for the registration of packaging producers as required by waste management regulations has been extended to June 28.
This applies to all packaging put on the market, be it primary, secondary or tertiary packaging.
It covers packaging used or released by industry, commercial establishments, offices, shops, household, or any other institution, regardless of the material used.
Producers who manufacture or import packaged goods for their own manufacturing processes are obliged to register as waste producers.
Application forms are available at the Mepa offices in Floriana and in Victoria. Alternatively, they can be downloaded from www.mepa.org.mt.
Producers of packaging are required to submit information on types and amounts of packaging placed on the market during the last year.
Enquiries about the registration process can be made on 2290 5020 or via e-mail at packaging@mepa.org.mt
