Members of the Malta Gay Rights Movement met Archbishop Paul Cremona to discuss concerns such as homophobia in society and in the educational sector, the lack of recognition of same sex couples by the state and the difficulties faced by gay individuals with a call to the priesthood or religious life.
The movement said some areas of agreement between the two sides emerged, such as the condemnation of homophobic violence and bullying and the need to differentiate between homosexuality and paedophilia.
A paper outlining the movement's position with respect to Church teachings on homosexuality, together with two information booklets were presented to the Archbishop. Also present for the meeting was Fr Anton Gouder, Pro-Vicar General.
