The FIA, formula one's governing body, has not yet sanctioned any night races, president Max Mosley said on Friday.

Singapore race organisers earlier this month said they would hold a night race in 2009, subject to approval by safety authorities, and F1 commercial supremo Bernie Ecclestone has also urged the Melbourne race organisers to hold their race under floodlights.

Mosely said night races would be held only if they are certified as being safe by the FIA .

"We will not sanction night racing if it does not fulfil all of the safety conditions."

The FIA chief also insisted that new street races, such as the one proposed for Valencia, have to meet the FIA's safety criteria as any other circuit.
