I have recently been to Mater Dei Hospital in one of the many visits being organised prior to the opening of the hospital and I must say that I was not disappointed. The guide was well versed and replied to all our questions without hesitation.
The building is quite airy and designed to make maximum use of the natural light including in the operating theatres, recovery rooms and the chapel, thus reducing the need to have artificial lighting on for most of the day.
The equipment installed is, as expected, state of the art. The various novelties should hopefully ease the waiting lists and increase the hospital bed turnaround. All this depends on both the hospital staff and the patients themselves.
Let's hope that the old habits at St Luke's Hospital are done away with once and for all - for the benefit of one and all. One also hopes that the hospital is kept clean and that no vandalism takes place.
The expense on this new hospital ought to be well looked after by one and all. This hospital is another feather in the cap of the Nationalist government led ably by the Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi who took the bull by the horns when progress stalled. In the end, the whole nation should be proud of this new hospital.
