Zurrieq beat Zebbug Rangers to earn promotion to Division Two next season. But, Rangers have now lost their status and will play in Division Three in 2007/08.

Zurrieq dictated the run of play for long stretches during the first half but Zebbug went close after 14 minutes through a Keith Farrugia free-kick. Six minutes later Michael Abdilla headed just over the bar from a Matthew Genuis cross.

Rangers keeper Philip Attard saved with difficulty to deny Robert Bajada but in first-half added time Zurrieq took the lead when Daniel Zammit headed home from another Genuis delivery.

Zebbug, who needed to win this match to stay in contention, tried to come back after the break but lacked punch up front.

Zurrieq made sure of the points with a second goal, scored by Joseph Lia, in the 62nd minute.

Five minutes from time, an incident involving Josef Felice (Zebbug) and Clayton Gatt (Zurrieq), led to both players being sent off. At the final whistle, the Zurrieq clan celebrated in style their team's return to Division Two next season.

Fgura United 3
Qrendi 0

Fgura ended the season with a merited victory over Qrendi, the three goals being scored after the interval.

After the match the Fgura players carried a banner with a message regarding an alleged doping case, involving another Division Three team. The MFA is still to give a ruling on the matter.

Fgura played the better football during the first period and were unlucky as a header by Clint Ellul bounced off the bar.

Qrendi keeper Florian Piscopo stopped shots by Matthew Spiteri and Carl Camilleri and, at the other end, Winston Fenech's grounder was stopped by Ranier Farrugia.

Just before half-time, Fgura were very close to taking the lead but a Christian Bordieri effort rolled just wide.

Fgura took the lead in the 58th minute, Ellul hitting home following an indecision by a Qrendi defender.

Daniel Said made it 2-0 on 72 minutes and Eric Lia sealed the issue eight minutes from time.
