Carving out our heritage
Luigi Muscat Filleti, nine, of Swieqi, visits a very different kind of quarry
In January my classmates and I went on an outing to the Limestone Heritage. We saw a film of how people, a long time ago, cut stones and ancient cave writing, which was done by cavemen.
When we went out of the cinema, a man gave us each headphones to wear, to hear the commentary about very ancient tools, which were used to cut the rocks and carve. It was very different to doing it with machines nowadays. We also saw a very old fashioned truck, which they used to carry the heavy stones, and carved statues and wax figures.
Then they took us to carve our very own pictures on limestone slabs, I carved the Maltese flag, Then we all went to a museum where we saw rocks with diamonds in them and sharks' teeth and information about rocks all round the world.
This was a very interesting outing to the Limestone Heritage and I am sure that my classmates enjoyed it.
