Alternattiva Demokratika is proposing that the national park at Xaghra l-Hamra be named after Julian Manduca, who dedicated his life's work to raising awareness on the need for environmental conservation.

Chairman Harry Vassallo said it would be a most fitting memorial to Mr Manduca, who died two years ago this month, if Malta's largest legally protected nature conservation area were to be named after him.

AD will be seeking an appointment with the newly appointed chairman of national parks, Stanley Zammit, to make its proposal directly.

It also took the opportunity of welcoming the appointment of Dr Zammit to this post in view of his "track record and proven commitment to environmental protection".
