A young couple who had had a civil marriage have recently had a child and they went to their local parish church at Balzan to see about having the child baptised. The parish priest informed them that since they had not been married in Church he would not let the child be baptised with the rest of the babies born that month but would have to be baptised privately.

His logic, and presumably that of the Curia, must be that since the parents were "living in sin", the sin of the parents affected the child too and thus he must not be baptised at the monthly baptismal Mass with his peers. So according to him this 10-day-old child was to be held responsible for "the sin" of the parents.

How about that for Christian charity? I wonder what the reaction of the child will be later on when he grows up and finds out, as he will, how loving and fair "Holy Mother Church" was with him on his very first day of membership.

We have been told that the gates of Limbo have been closed. I fear that the place has merely been re-located to Balzan!
