Maltacom has sponsored the newly set up student council of the Malta College of Arts, Science and technology (MCAST).

Speaking at the cheque presentation ceremony at the Maltacom Group head office in Marsa, Franco Aloisio, head communications and public affairs, said "Maltacom is proud to be among the first companies to support the sterling work being undertaken by the MCAST student council towards improving student life and promoting the further development of a knowledge-based society. We are delighted to have this unique opportunity to support the learning experience offered to students attending courses at MCAST," he added.

Cladonia Scerri, MCAST student council's international secretary, thanked Maltacom for its ongoing support and for choosing to help the student council continue its sterling work for the benefit of students attending courses at the various institutions. "With Maltacom's sponsorship, the student council will be in a better position to improve communications with the students themselves and to ensure that their course of studies gives them adequate skills to face up to the challenges they will encounter in the workplace," she said.

Luke Cassar, MCAST student council secretary, accompanied Ms Scerri during the presentation.

The Maltacom group has always enjoyed a healthy and pro-active relationship with MCAST. Besides sponsoring familiarisation visits for IT diploma students, the company takes on a number of MCAST students as part of the summer worker scheme and currently sponsors 11 students through a three-year course of studies under the Technical Apprenticeship Scheme.

Meanwhile, the group avails itself of MCAST professional training services in various skills including call centre functions for potential Dial It employees, customer care courses for broadband employees, business English and Maltese as well as finance for non-finance people.

"Maltacom is proud to be on the forefront in teaming up with the local education and vocational training institutions for the benefit of young people who are tomorrow's workforce. We consider this as part of our responsibility to the local community," said Mr Aloisio.

The move forms part of Maltacom's ongoing strategies aimed at enhancing educational development in the local community, to help develop students' vocational skills, knowledge and holistic growth by assisting them to reach their individual learning goals during their course of studies.
