Archbishop Paul Cremona yesterday met journalists and people involved in the media on the occasion of the 41st World Communications Day which has the theme Children And The Media: A Challenge For Education.

In a short message inspired by a message for the occasion by Pope Benedict XVI, Mgr Cremona said that "reality, for many, is what the media recognise as real". This showed the strength of the media.

He said that media education should be positive. Children exposed to what was aesthetically and morally excellent were helped to develop appreciation, prudence and skills of discernment.

He said the heartfelt wish of parents and teachers was that the media promoted fundamental human dignity, the true value of marriage and family life, and the positive achievements and goals of humanity.
