The President's Office is for the third consecutive year inviting Maltese families to visit Verdala Palace in Buskett.
The invitation is for June 17 at 10 a.m. A limited number of tickets - 150 - issued by Heritage Malta are available from the Museum of Fine Arts, South Street, Valletta daily between 9 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. until June 15.
Tickets for adults cost Lm1 each while those for the elderly and students cost 50c. Children under the age of 10 enter for free.
Verdala Palace was designed by architect Gerolamo Cassar in 1586 for Grand Master Verdalle in the remote zone known as tal-Boschetto. When the British arrived in Malta in 1800, the palace was used as a prison and for a number of years it was left in a state of abandon until Governor Sir William Reid established extensive works of restoration in 1855.
In 1982 the palace was used as a residence for visiting heads of state. When Paul Xuereb was appointed Acting President in 1987, he turned the palace into his official residence.
It is now the summer residence of the President of Malta.
