Ryanair yesterday announced its new route from Malta to Barcelona (Girona).

The route, which goes on sale today at www.ryanair.com will start being operated on October 30. In October, Ryanair will increase its Barcelona based aircraft from seven to nine.

To celebrate, Ryanair launched fares starting from €0.01 on its routes from Malta.

Ryanair's sales and marketing manager for southern Europe, Bridget Dowling said: "Ryanair's existing routes to Dublin, London and Pisa have proven hugely successful as has the recently announced route from Malta to Bremen.

"We are delighted to announce a fifth route to Barcelona (Girona) which will operate three times a week from October 30. We expect to carry 40,000 passengers on this route in the first year of operations."

The Ryanair flight from Malta to Barcelona will leave Malta at 6.45 a.m. arriving in Girona at 9.05 a.m., while the return flight to Malta will leave Girona at 9.30 a.m., landing here at noon.
