I have noticed a number of letters appearing in The Times recently, by residents of San Pawl tat-Targa rightfully complaining about the state of neglect this residential area finds itself in.
One wonders if there is indeed a local council that cares for San Pawl tat-Targa, which is made up mainly of bungalows and villas, and which also includes the residences of foreign diplomats.
San Pawl tat-Targa is a shambles, with dirt and dust all over the place, bad road surfaces, makeshift pavements, burnt out street lamps and a general state of deterioration.
Jules Verne Street, which is a wide road, has become notorious for use by negligent car drivers as ideal for car speeding. Schoolchildren waiting for or returning from their school transport are particularly at risk of being run over, and already residents have lodged complaints that pet dogs and cats have been killed by speeding cars. I have for a long time been requesting the Naxxar local council to install speed calming measures, only to finally receive a negative reply that their policy is to install such measures in narrow streets that lack a pavement. So there you have it, they prefer to place speed calming measures in narrow streets, while wider roads which are more prone to be used for speeding are ignored.
Fort Road is an example of the shambles that is San Pawl tat-Targa, and Birguma is another part that has been neglected.
It is indeed a pity that the Naxxar council has over the years allowed the rot to settle in San Pawl tat-Targa. We hope of course that the council will see that it makes more sense to give a better performance and render a service that the residents of San Pawl tat-Targa merit and would appreciate.
