Anyone who has an aquarium will know that watching fish is fascinating. And even "ordinary" goldfish are very interesting!
There are over one hundred kinds of goldfish. The common goldfish has two sets of paired fins, exceptionally large eyes and acute senses of smell and hearing.
Pet goldfish are usually fed dried flake or pellet food but goldfish are omnivorous, meaning they feed on both plants and animals. They have teeth in their throats, which they use to crush food.
Goldfish will survive in water temperatures ranging from freezing to 30 degrees centigrade.
Goldfish spawn both in the spring and in the summer. Their eggs will stick to the water plants. Within a week the eggs will hatch.
Never leave your goldfish alone in a bowl with nothing but water. Make sure it has interesting surroundings because although it may only have a memory span of about three seconds it could live as long as 20 years!
