The number of children born out of wedlock rose from 464 in 2000 to 779 in 2005, Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg told Labour MP Stefan Buontempo.

Replying to a parliamentary question, the minister said 499 were born out of wedlock in 2001, 569 in 2002, 678 in 2003 and 744 in 2004.
