'Cable fault leads to power cut'

Various parts of Malta were without electric power yesterday evening when a cable leading out from the Marsa power station to the south of the island 'broke', sources said. This led to a surge that caused an overload, shutting down the supply.

Various parts of Malta were without electric power yesterday evening when a cable leading out from the Marsa power station to the south of the island 'broke', sources said.

This led to a surge that caused an overload, shutting down the supply. Electricity was supplied to the south of the island within a relatively short time but by then the supply went dead in Paceville. Power cuts were reported in Mellieha, Iklin, Kirkop, Birkirkara and Lija among other places.

By the time of going to press, Enemalta was doing its utmost to repair the fault.
