The St Paul's Bay local council has this year given youths aged between 14 and 18 living in this locality the opportunity to share an experience of the Local Youth Council - an initiative of the National Youth Council within the Ministry of Education.
The Local Youth Council empowers youths to participate in their locality's decision-making - in a democratic way - by forwarding proposals for the benefit of their locality. It gives priority to youth participation in society both on social and political levels.
The Local Youth Council, chaired by the mayor, meets regularly to work on its targets for the locality. At present they are working on a project entitled Battle of the Bands.
May I take the opportunity to appeal to any youths particularly from the locality of St Paul's Bay to enrol at the local council offices if they are interested in taking part.
Members of the Local Youth Council are also being given the opportunity to attend workshops, seminars and conferences regarding youth policies and share experiences with other youths in other European countries. And this, thanks to Malta's membership in the European Union. May I take the opportunity to congratulate the first Local Youth Council, which has been my initiative, and wish it the best of success in carrying out its projects.
