The impression Adrian Borg Cardona (May 9) is trying to give is far from the truth. Just for the record, there are 114 reserved green spaces to be utilised by thousands of Valletta residents so the implication that one finds a guaranteed parking slot outside one's home is incorrect. In addition, through ignorance or indifference, many of these spaces are still being occupied by non-residents, particularly in the evenings.

I am not as familiar with legal jargon as he is but the only right I refer to is the right to have reasonable access to my home. Before the new system was introduced, once a resident left Valletta in the morning, he or she could forget about returning before 7 p.m. Before, that is, somebody like Adrian Borg Cardona decided to liberate the precious parking space he would have been egoistically occupying, by his own admittance, for 10 hours every day while he sat comfortably in his air-conditioned office, regularly eating out and doing his shopping. In the meantime, residents would be sitting in steaming hot cars for hours, waiting for a space to become available so that they could park and get home.

Mr Borg Cardona also gives the impression that this new system in Valletta has no legal basis but I will leave those with more competence in the field to reply. On the other hand, similar systems operate in every major city in the world and have also been operating for some time in other localities in Malta. How come he did not choose to comment earlier?

Mr Borg Cardona should look at it from the perspective of his clients. The space he occupied for 10 hours per day can now be shared equally among 20 of his clients. They can now drive into Valletta and park close to his office, pop in for advice and pop back out within 30 minutes without paying one cent, for parking at least!
