In Pamela Hansen's column entitled "Renewal and redemption" (The Sunday Times, April 8) one reads: "The last item, the first of two burnt cars, has a different twist, because the violent act seemed to be politically motivated. It belonged to a Floriana Labour councillor who had created some heated arguments at the council office after he was not elected mayor.
"Brian Zammit's argument was that, as he had polled the highest number of votes, that should automatically have made him mayor. And apparently he got rather heated when he lost out to Nigel Holland, the independent councillor. Surely that should have been no reason for burning his car!"
To this one can rebut that, during the (public) April 4 Floriana council sitting (in the presence of Floriana's mayor, deputy mayor, and all other councillors and the council executive secretary), Floriana Labour councillor Brian Zammit declared that on Monday, April 2 (when the Floriana mayor was elected) he did not have a heated argument with anyone.
Of course, with council minutes being public, I am in a position to provide a copy of them to Ms Hansen should she so wish.
