Sliema Boys' Junior Lyceum, which forms part of College 6, recently organised a day trip to Sicily to better appreciate Italian culture, geography and history .
The students arrived at Pozzallo harbour and were taken on a tour of the town before going on to Taormina. There they were taken to the town's Greek theatre and admired its unique structure. They also enjoyed excellent panoramic views of the lush beaches in this top-ranking tourist resort.
The students' day trip was made even more unforgettable with a visit to nearby Mount Etna. Here the students stood in awe at the volcano's magnificent height while remembering the discussions in class about Etna's frequent eruptions.
To the surprise of many students the volcano was all covered with snow and they could not resist the thrill of throwing snowballs at each other. Apart from these cultural tours the students also had time to buy souvenirs. Heartfelt thanks go to Italian teacher Claudio Bezzina and Anthony Mercieca, Maltese teacher at the Lyceum, who co-ordinated this educational trip.
Two other teachers, Antoine Busuttil and Melanie Chircop accompanied them. Appreciation also goes to the guide who accompanied our students and teaching staff all throughout this trip.
