The Malta Standards Authority (MSA) and the Libyan National Centre for Standardisation and Metrology (LNCSM) signed a memorandum of understanding for co-operation and collaboration in the areas of technical regulations and standardisation.
Last week a delegation of the MSA, made up of chairman Francis E. Farrugia and Ing. Claudio Boffa, head of NAB-Malta, the newly established accreditation board, were invited by the Libyan counterparts to Tripoli to set the agreement in motion.
As a first step, seven high officials of LNCSM are spending four weeks in June with the MSA. A training programme has been agreed to by both parties and this includes theoretical, practical and fieldwork.
One of the aims of this agreement is for the MSA to support the LNCSM to build the necessary quality infrastructure for Libya to become a member of the WTO. The agreement also foresees MSA providing calibration facilities to Libyan industry, LNCSM acting as agents to MSA.
