Betfair Holdings (Malta) Ltd has obtained the ISO 27001: 2005 certification. This confers on Betfair the very highest levels of governance and represents the new international standard for an Information Security Management System (ISMS).
With its headquarters in Hammersmith, attaining certification in December 2006, Betfair becomes the first iGaming company to be certified globally.
Betfair customers can be guaranteed peace of mind that tight security and screening practices will ensure that information cannot fall in the wrong hands.
"As the world's leading online betting exchange, it is apt that Betfair leads the industry into this important field of information security," the company said in a statement last week.
"By attaining ISO 27001, Betfair is able to demonstrate its commitment to the integrity of its information systems, assuring its customers of optimum security for personal details."
According to Betfair Malta managing director Steve Ives: "I am delighted that we have been able to pass such a stringent test so soon after launching our Maltese operation.
"We want to ensure that here in Malta we maintain the world class standards of compliance that are an integral part of Betfair's approach to doing business throughout the world. This is testament to the quality and dedication of the staff we have brought into the Malta operation."
With offices in the UK, Dublin, Australia, Denmark and Malta, Betfair employs 1,300 employees globally, 48 of whom are based in local offices in Malta, a figure that the company intends to expand substantially within the next 12 to 18 months.
Since its launch in 2000, Betfair has won several prestigious awards, including in 2003, the Queen's Award for Enterprise in Innovation, and in 2004, Company of the Year at the Confederation of British Industry Growing Business Awards.
Betfair became the first company to retain its title of 'Company of the Year' at the 2005 Growing Business Awards. In 2002, its founders, Andrew Black and Edward Wray, jointly won the Ernst and Young Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year award.
