Malta rugby coach Damian Neill has announced a 10-strong women's squad for the forthcoming FIRA European Sevens Championship.
Twelve nations will be competing in this tournament which will be held in Zenica, Bosnia & Herzegovina, on the weekend of May 19-20, the Malta Rugby Football Union (MRFU) said in a statement.
The participating teams have been split into two groups. Malta have been drawn in Group B along with hosts Bosnia, Hungary, Finland, Serbia and Denmark. Group A is made up of Israel, Austria, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Georgia and Latvia. The Maltese girls will play four games on the opening day (May 19) against Bosnia, Finland, Denmark and Serbia. Hungary are Malta's final group opponents on May 20 before the staging of the final phase of the competition.
The winning team will gain a berth in the Rugby Sevens World Cup.
National coach Neill is being assisted by Carmelo Longo while Audrey Vella is the team manager.
Malta's squad: Beverie Sultana, Charmaine Gauci, Tessabelle Sultana, Marion Azzopardi (all Hibs Sharks); Amanda Cassar, Charlene Vassallo, Victoria Aquilina, Esther Farrugia, Colette Abela, Dorianne Borg (all Kavallieri).
