I refer to Stephen Zerafa's last line of defence in his almost impossible enterprise of shifting the blame for the present war zone conditions of Marsascala's St Anne Street in the wake of the WSC contractor's works. I repeat that I cannot blame the head of the Public Relations Department of the WSC for bending over backwards in trying to explain that his corporation is not to blame. However, I cannot remain silent, and I will not, in the face of the hardships that motorists, residents and shop owners have to cope with because the WSC's contractor made a mess of things.
After repeating that the WSC had warned the local council before it started resurfacing St Anne Street, the WSC's PR man went on to ask everybody to be a bit patient as his corporation is still investigating the works done. He seems to be waiting for the rains to fall down on our village so that they can verify where the damage is. Is Mr Zerafa implying that we have to wait until September/October? Then, if the rains do come, the WSC would be able to verify and make amends.
We are not ready to wait this long. There are a thousand and one ways in which to verify the damage. The WSC should and must choose one of them. It is the responsibility of the WSC to restore St Anne Street to the way it was before their contractor mishandled his job, to maintain the mains and to compensate its victims.
It is useless for Mr Zerafa to point fingers. The WSC is to blame and he knows it. Before their raid on St Anne Street everything was OK. Now, everything is in a shambles.
