A Children's European Parliament was held yesterday at the House of Representatives on the occasion of Europe Day on the theme If I Were A European Commissioner.
Twelve "commissioners of the future" from various schools spoke during the event. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Anton Tabone, Foreign Minister Michael Frendo, Environment Minister George Pullicino, MPs, MEPs, the head of the European Commission Representation Office and the head of the European Parliament Office addressed the students.
The event was organised by the European Commission Representation in Malta and European Parliament Office in Malta in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
After the "parliamentary session", President Eddie Fenech Adami met the students in the Palace courtyard where he was briefed on the discussion held in the House. Dr Fenech Adami then presented prizes to the winners of the Junior School and Senior School Spring Day competitions.
The flags of the EU and the 27 member states were raised, the Malta Police Band played the EU national anthem and a birthday cake was cut to celebrate Europe Day and the EU's 50th anniversary.
